Influences

“Some shaped our sound, others shaped the way we think about music.”

Our crew has been influenced by an interesting collection of music artists. In some cases these influences have shaped our sound, and in other instances they have influenced they way we think about music.

Thievery Corporation
First and foremost, we are a trip hop and dub project. We borrowed the blueprint for our sound from Thievery Corporation- organic drums, dub-style bass, and trippy synthesizers. This sound was born out of the chill-out rooms of underground gatherings such as raves, clubs, and festivals.

Bill Laswell - Tabla Beat Science

Pioneers like Bill Laswell and his work on Tabla Beat Science inspired us to combine live instruments with electronic music and DJ culture. The track below features Laswell (on Bass) playing with a live drummer and DJ.

Tool

Beyond sound, we’ve borrowed heavily from the spiritual philosophy of bands like Tool.

Tool showed us that music can serve as a vehicle for exploring the inner landscape of the soul. We create our music with the same intention. We want our music to be a “tool” for people seeking higher levels of being.

Grateful Dead

Like many legendary groups, the Grateful Dead were more than just a band. They were symbolic figures at the center of  a devoted community. Over the years, these people formed a unique subculture known as Dead Heads. To Dead Heads, Grateful Dead concerts were rituals were spiritual rituals.

Someday Heads Adrift will be at the center of a community much like the Dead Heads. Together we will host gatherings where we can share magical experiences together.

Closing Thoughts

Our own music may be simple, but as you can see, we are made up of a rich mixture of artistic influences.

Above all, we are a vibe-band. Our primary mission is to create music that elevates our listeners.
